NEW WEBSITE
Welcome to the new site and design for obstacleproductions.co.uk, hope you enjoy.
Obstacle Productions was formed in the summer of 2008 by a group of East 15 Acting School students with a common desire to do more outside, independent productions. Since then Obstacle has produced three productions, so far under the banner of horror theatre. Last year Obstacle enjoyed success at the Edinburgh Fringe with Opening Night of the Living Dead, receiving five 4-star reviews and was also awarded a Stage 'Must See'. This year production is growing to incorporate two shows - Legend and Pulse, with a month of touring followed by a return to the Edinburgh Fringe. Obstacle continues to spread its wings in other areas with the current creation of two film trailers for these productions. We look forward to the exciting times to come

David Asher
David completed his A Level in Drama and Theatre Studies at Alton College, Hampshire. For the Christmas show he played Truffeldino in A Servant to Two Masters by Carlo Gordino, translated by Lee Hall. He has just graduated from the BA Acting course at East 15 Acting School, taking on roles including Vershinin from Three Sisters by Anton Chekov, 3rd Juror from Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose and Francisco from The White Devil by John Webster. David made his debut for Obstacle Productions playing Hector during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival show: Opening Night of the Living Dead written by Joshua Dickinson.
Having graduated from Kings College with a BA in Philosophy, Miles has recently completed his second degree; this time in Acting at East 15 Acting School. Miles appeared in numerous plays with the King's Players during his university years including Caliban from The Tempest and Charles II from The Libertine as well as in the National Youth Theatre's production of The Threepenny Opera at The Lyric, Hammersmith. In recent years Miles has appeared alongside Stephen Fry, Mel Smith, Matthew Kelly and others in a fundraising production of Twelfth Night for The Theatre Royal, Norwich; played the part of The Player King in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead for Wicked Sharp in Suffolk; and written and starred in a short film entitled Speed Dating. Miles is also an Edinburgh regular appearing as Easy in Dogg's Hamlet, Cahoot's Macbeth; Scullery in Road and most recently as Graham in A Chip in the Sugar from the Talking Heads monologues. Miles is also the Artistic Director of Obstacle Productions; appearing in both A Winter's Chill and What Stirs the Spring, as well as directing and appearing as Steve in the most recent production of Opening Night of the Living Dead.
Clark Crewe
This year, Clark completed a BA in acting at East 15 Acting School. He has recently joined Obstacle Productions and this will be his first performance at the Edinburgh Fringe. Clark's experience at East 15 has been very broad; from street punk 'Angel Cruz' in Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train to Kent in Howard Barker's '7 Lears'. Most recently Clark has performed as Erich, a jumped up Nazi in ''Tales from the Vienna Woods'. At the moment he is also working with Theatre Lab Productions on a new play 'Kiss the Shadow' by award winning writer Nina Rapi which will be performed in June.
Joshua Dickinson
Joshua has served Obstacle as both an actor and writer. He grew up in rural Suffolk before training at East 15 Acting School. His roles there included King Ferdinand in Love's Labour's Lost and Jim/Edwin in The Gut Girls. He has been with Obstacle since the start, having performed ghost stories around London and then both writing and performing in last year's successful Edinburgh run of Opening Night of the Living Dead. This year Joshua's involvement with Obstacle extends to penning his second play Legend.
Stefanie Elliot
This year Stefanie will be making her fourth Edinburgh Fringe appearance, although it will be her first with Obstacle Productions. Prior to a BA Acting degree at East 15 Acting School, she performed in numerous plays, both scripted and devised, with Edward's Theatre Company; including The Suicide by Nikolai Erdman and an adaptation of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, both of which achieved Fringe 'Sell Out' status during their Edinburgh run. Other credits include Rowetta in Stop!...Youre Killing Me, written and produced by Hambledon Theatre Company, which toured in her home county of Lincolnshire before transferring to London's The White Bear and other UK venues. Amongst Stefanie's most recent credits at East 15 are Isabella in The White Devil; Yulia in Summerfolk and Marina in Pericles. More contemporary roles include Carol in Cardiff East and Catherine in Mixed Up North.
Victoria Weir
Victoria has just completed her final year at East 15 Acting School, graduating with a BA Acting Degree. Having taking Drama at A level and playing one of her most challenging roles to date as the Mother in Blood Wedding by Freedarico Lorca, Victoria began her training at East 15 on a Foundation course for theatre arts, before entering onto the BA Acting course. Roles whilst training include Putana in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore by John Ford, Nina in The Seagull by Anton Chekov and more recently Marianne in Tales from the Vienna Woods by Ödön von Horváth. This year will be Victora's first year at The Edinburgh Festival where she will be performing in two separate plays, as part of Obstacle Productions.
Opening Night of the Living Dead
Lydia's role in Romeo and Juliet is the perfect chance to convince an agent she's worth putting on his books. If only her co-star, Laurence, would stick to the script rather than obsessing over his character. The only support she gets is from the director, Hector, who is doing everything he can backstage to hold together a lousy show.
Meanwhile Joe is admiring Lydia from the tech box; but the two could never be star cross'd lovers. Techies and actors are from two completely different families. If only Joe had a good opportunity to talk to her...
Like a zombie invasion! The cast of Montagues and Capulets might be eating each other's brains but can something as silly as a rising of the undead get in the way of true love? After all the show must go on...

What Stirs the Spring
What Stirs the Spring ran through Easter 2009 in three London fringe venues (The Bookshop Theatre, Waterloo; The Drill Hall, Tottenham Court Road and The Old Red Lion, Angel). The show was a new and improved version of its predecessor A Winter's Chill. The second half combination of After Michelangelo... by Jonathan Pinnock and The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe remained the same. However, a new first half of the shockingly stark Monkey's Paw by W. W. Jacobs and the futuristic horror of Timelock by Oscar Windsor-Smith were added.
"Miles and Josh are to be congratulated on their excellent interpretations of four finely written stories." Cheryl Alleyne

A Winters Chill
A Winter's Chill was Obstacle Productions' debut show. It took place in The New End Theatre, Hampstead in December, 2008. The concept of the show was to produce old classics alongside new writing which shared the theme of fear. Therefore the spine tingling tale O Whistle and I'll Come My Lad by M R James was performed alongside the shiver inducing Step Softly Alongside These Shores by Janet Baldey; followed by the dark humour of After Michelangelo... by Jonathan Pinnock and finished off with the hideous monstrosity of The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. The show was a success, netting Obstacle Productions a small profit which enabled the project to grow further...
"Miles Barden and Joshua Dickinson delivered their well-judged programme of stories told in classic fireside fashion." Oscar Windsor-Smith
